Happy three month to our baby girl, Miss Navy Rose. Words can’t even describe these months, though we’ve used plenty along the journey to try. One day, soon, we’ll have a parade to show you how many people love you and are cheering you on.
This week, we had plenty to cheer, too. On Monday, Navy basically took her first oral feed. She did awesome. On her first round, it took about 40 minutes for her to accept the bottle in her mouth and suck on it, but once she started she was such a sucker. She ate the entire bottle of 24 mL, about a fourth of her daily recommendation. She was completely exhausted and wouldn’t wake up the entire rest of the day.
Another big win is that as of this morning, Navy is off her morphine! She still has it on hand as an “if needed” medication but her scheduled doses are no more. She’s still a little grumpy, but she has moments of being so calm and happy. Heather had a fun moment where Navy was even starting to giggle a little bit. We’ve got another medicine to start weaning next week, but it should be easier than the road we just travelled with the morphine.
I don’t want to get too high, but we are taking a lot of the right steps for Navy to come home. In fact, we’ll be starting a discharge class tomorrow to start learning what we need to know for when the time comes. They’ve also started talking about teaching us how to bring her home with an NG Tube, Oxygen, what medicines we can administer at home, and subtle things like that. Our fingers are staying crossed.
