Today, at 3:33 pm, marks Navy’s three week birthday and three week stay in the NICU. This past week held more lows than highs, but we are OK and Navy is stable.
I don’t want to get into the lows, so here’s some facts. We’ve officially learned that she has tracheomalacia, basically a floppy airway. It’s a moderate case, so the best solution is just to wait and let her grow while keeping a BiPAP mask on for extra pressure and oxygen to keep her airway open. During the week, nurses thought they saw seizure signs so Navy had additional testing in that regard, twice actually, but seizures have officially been ruled off the table, which is comforting.
As for the highs, it was Kai’s birthday on Tuesday. To celebrate, he came to Salt Lake with us and met his baby sister for the first time. He was cute with her in spurts, but easily distracted by the spinny chairs and buttons everywhere. The cute stuff was when he sang to her, held her hand, told her a story, read her a story, gazed at her, and counted and recounted her fingers and then his own. He has been so good through this process and hard weeks. We are lucky to have this THREE YEAR OLD in our family.
As for another high, we love our care team at the NICU. So many people, especially the nurses, have Navy’s interests in mind and are taking the best care of our little girl. We are also constantly full of gratitude for the many kind gestures, tender mercies, and sweet thoughts and prayers we receive from the many loved ones who surround us.
